Thane's Neck Farm is located on 14 acres in Roxboro, North Carolina. Roxboro is located half way across
the State of North Carolina just South of the North Carolina / Virginia border.
Although the alpacas are the primary livestock at Thane's Neck Farm they are not all you will find when
you visit. In the spirit of true homesteading and self-sufficiency we raise a number of other types of
livestock to supply our family with fresh eggs, milk, butter, cheese and meat. Our goal here at Thane's
Neck Farm is to become as self-sufficient as possible and tread lightly on the land.
We have a small flock of laying hens (30+/-) of several different breeds that all lay colored eggs. We also
brood up a variety of heavy breed cockerels for the pot. In 2007 we added turkeys and muscovy ducks for
meat and bug control. Also in 2007, we have added meat rabbits to the homestead. Next, we have
Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Our girls will provide fresh goats milk that we will make into wonderful goats milk
cheeses, soap and many other useful and tasty items. Then there are our milking cows. Not just any cows
but two Irish Dexters, Cherry Blossom and Riona. Their rich milk is used for drinking, making butter, ice
cream, cheeses and more. We also have our steer calves butchered for the freezer each year. Finally,
just because we love them we have two Miniature Donkeys and a pair of Embden Geese.
