The Entlebucher is the smallest of the four
Swiss Mountain Dog breeds. It is a cattle dog,
related to the more well-known Bernese
Mountain Dog and Greater Swiss Mountain Dog,
and the less common Appenzeller. The
Entlebucher Mountain Dog is 16 to 20 inches
tall. They are a tri-color, stocky, solid dog, with
a short, dense double coat. Tails can be
naturally bobtailed, docked to a bobtail or left
naturally long.
An Entlebucher is not the perfect dog for
everyone. As a strong dog, an Entle requires
an experienced and dedicated owner. They
excel at activities such as herding, obedience,
agility, carting and many other canine sports.
Entlebucher Sennenhunds are wonderful family
dogs. They bond closely with their people and
are naturally protective of children.

Mountain / Cattle Dog
I became interested in Entlebuchers after looking
for another dog to add to our family. The ideal
dog was to be tri-colored, floppy eared, short
tailed, with a "big dog" attitude but in a "medium
dog" package and finally active and trainable.
After much research and a short list of dogs that
fit some but not all of our trait list, I saw a special
on Animal Planet on the "Greater Swiss Mountain
Dog". I had not heard of this rare breed before
and quickly did more research. The GSMD
quickly made it onto my short list but was just too
big for our home. But, while doing research I
came across another related breed... the
Entlebucher Sunnenhund!

WOW! This breed had everything we wanted. I got in touch with breeders in Oregon
and after a strict interview process (thank you Kathy and Gina!) I put a deposit down on
a male pup from their next litter.
It has been six wonderful years with Tate. He has been the BEST dog ever! I look
forward to adding more Entles to our household in the future.
