Thane's Neck Farm is a small family farm operated by Neil Bensen and Diana Moxcey,
along with their two young children, Evan and McKayla. The farm is a new enterprise
for the family, being purchased in 2006. Although the farm is somewhat new, Neil and
Diana are no strangers to the needs of the farming lifestyle.
During Diana's high school years her parents settled on over 80 acres in a small town
in Maine. There they cleared land, gardened, raised chickens, had a family milk cow
and Diana had horses. After graduating from high school Diana went on to earn her
B.S. in Animal and Veterinary Sciences in 1993 from the University of Maine, Orono.
Diana has worked as a Licenced Veterinary Technician for over 12 years. She has
worked both on large animal production farms and in small animal veterinary hospitals.
Diana has always dreamed of the day she would be able to own a farm of her own.
Neil, after working many years as a facility manager, earned his B.S. in Construction
Science and Management. Neil currently works off the farm as a field engineer in the
construction industry. His education and work experience, along with his experience
with working with alpacas, makes Neil uniquely qualified in designing and building
alpaca barns and pasture layouts. Neil loves the alpacas and is looking forward to the
time when we all can be home full time working the farm.
After the birth of their son Evan, Diana started knitting and working with different fibers
and techniques. She likes to knit items and then "full" them (often mislabeled as
"felting") but also does other forms of needlework such as cross stitch, blackwork and
most recently... needle felting . After working with animals most of her life alpacas
melted her heart the first time she saw one.
